DALLAS – The 10 best dish finalist for the 17th annual Big Tex Choice Awards have been announced. A panel of judges chose five savory dishes and five sweet dishes from a selection of 32 over-the-top creations.
A winner in both categories will be crowned, and a winner for the “most creative” dish, will all be showcased on Sunday, August 29.
Crispy Crazy Corn
Fried sweet corn nuggets with pulled pork, pineapple slaw, jalapeño crema and cilantro.
Deep Fried I-35
A sweet-and-savory kolache with a Dr. Pepper glaze and filled with brisket and peaches.
Deep Fried Seafood Gumbo Balls
Fried bites with shrimp, chicken, blue crab meat, andouille sausage and served with a side of dark roux sauce.
Lucky Duck Dumplin’
A pastry filled with cream cheese, duck bacon and herbs.
Smoked sausage, wrapped in bacon, then stuffed with mac and cheese.
Deep Fried Halloween
A big, chewy pretzel drenched in candy corn syrup, covered in orange and white buttercream icing, topped with marshmallow whip cream, and stacked with a variety of Halloween candy.
An ice cream sandwich with two armadillo-shaped cookies drizzled with cookie butter and dusted with sugar.
A Peanut brittle with smokey brisket instead of peanuts.
Fernie’s Fried Toffee Coffee Crunch Cake
Deep fried cake doughnut chunks covered with English toffee, crunchy almonds, and sweet custard.
Texas Pumpkin Poke Cake
Pumpkin cake topped with vanilla glaze, caramel syrup, and whipped cream, and sprinkled with a secret spice blend.
