SEAGOVILLE – Jesus F. Martinez, principal at Seagoville Middle School, has been named the new principal at Sunset High School for the 2021-22 school year. He replaces Claudia Vega, who served five years as principal at Sunset.
Martinez has served as a middle school English teacher, Advanced Placement English teacher, Soccer and Asst. Football Coach. He has also been a dean of students, assistant principal, and principal. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English from SMU, his master’s in educational administration and his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from UNT.
Martinez transformed the culture at Seagoville Middle School and has worked toward consistency in instructional excellence across the campus. Since he took over the principalship, he has built the capacity of his leadership team to develop, implement, and adjust cultural systems so that there is consistency and positivity in the daily routines and interactions with staff and students. He trained his staff and leaders on what great customer service is and set the expectation that parents and students are treated as VIP customers.
Under the leadership of Martinez, Seagoville Middle School moved from a D to a C rating on the State Accountability System, parent complaints escalated beyond the campus level are rare, and students are seen happily following routines and protocols in a safe and positive learning environment.
